Hope. To cherish a desire with anticipation. To desire with expectation of obtainment. A feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.
Despair. To no longer have any hope or belief that a situation will improve or change. To lose all hope or confidence. The complete loss or absence of hope.
I have struggled with depression. I have struggled with low self esteem. I have struggled with not feeling loved. And honestly sometimes I still contend with those feelings. Sometimes they are very strong and sometimes they last for days but I am grateful that they don’t control me. Why?
Because I have hope.
I believe that no matter what the situation it will get better. I believe that nothing is so difficult that I can’t make it through. I believe that I have Jesus on my side.
I know this may seem easy to say because I’ve never faced what you’ve faced and that’s true but the fact that you are still reading this let’s me know that you are stronger than the thing that tried to break you. See Satan is trying to use whatever he can to keep you from accomplishing the goal that God has given you even if you’re not sure what that is yet.
With the Olympics coming up I’ve been watching the competitions in diving, swimming and gymnastics and the one thing all the athletes have in common is that they are one goal oriented-to get to the Olympics. Nothing and I mean nothing has deterred them and even if they make a mistake they still get up and keep moving forward. Why? Because they have hope.
Hope is the life spring that we should all be drinking from. It’s the one thing that we can’t live without. If we don’t have hope every little setback will become a major hindrance and it will become the reason why we don’t move forward. And again that’s exactly what Satan wants but we are stronger than he his and nothing that he even thinks about can stop us as long as we continue to hold onto the knowledge that each day brings new opportunities.
I myself don’t want to end my day knowing that I’ve given away a little piece of my life by allowing Satan to distract me from my goal. I’ve let him do it long enough and it’s time I take back life by holding onto the hope that has been given to me by God.
Why, my soul, are you downcast Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour and my God. (Psalm 42:11 NIV)
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. (Psalm 119:114 NIV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
